We included a story in the Bazaar Times about one of our customers, Mrs Neville, who took a 25 year old credit note in to one of our shops. Despite the note having expired by some 24 years, our bemused shop manager honoured the note and reduced Mrs Neville's payment by the £2.03 that was due.
Since then we've been delighted to have our attention drawn to an entry on an economists' website analysing the value of Mrs Neville's note in 1983 compared to today. The author summarises by saying "£2.03 in 1983 would be worth £5.01 today - enough to buy a Hatchable Penguin (£4.99) instead of a lousy kaleidoscope (£1.99). And we all know that a Hatchable Penguin is a jabillion times cooler."
We're very grateful to the author for all their effort and are curious to know if 'jabillion' is a technical economists' term that we are not familiar with?
